Luciano Frigerio, born in 1928 in Desio, was an Italian designer known for his contributions to the field of cabinet making and furniture design. Growing up in a family with a long tradition of cabinet making, he combined his passion for design with his passion for music. Over the years, Frigerio has transformed the family business into a benchmark for high-quality furniture, collaborating with renowned Italian architects and designers.
His philosophy was based on the belief that architects could design unique furniture, not just for industrial production. This vision led to the creation of Sculpture Furniture in solid wood and headboards for Sculpture Beds in cast bronze, distinguishing themselves from the industrial production of the time. His collaboration with architects such as Franco Albini and Paolo Portoghesi helped establish the company's reputation in the international market.
Frigerio has been recognized with several awards and honors throughout his career, including those obtained during the Salone Internazionale del Mobile Italiano and Mobillevante Bari. His impact in the design industry is also reflected through permanent exhibitions and the presence of his work in major art galleries in Italy and abroad. His legacy in high-quality design continues to be appreciated, and Frigerio passed away in 1999 in San Remo.
The Frigerio company in Desio was a renowned Italian firm specializing in the production of high-quality, designer furniture. Founded and led by Luciano Frigerio, the company originated from a family tradition of artisan cabinetmaking started by his father Giovanni in 1889. Luciano, born in 1928, carried on the family legacy, but also introduced a modern and innovative vision to the industry.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Luciano Frigerio began exploring furniture design in collaboration with leading Italian architects and designers, including Franco Albini, Sergio Asti, and Paolo Portoghesi. These collaborations have helped transform the company into a center of excellence for fine cabinet making, with a focus on the production of unique, designer pieces.
Frigerio's distinctive approach to design was manifested through the creation of Sculpture Furniture in solid wood and headboards for Sculpture Beds in cast bronze. These unique and innovative pieces set the company apart from the industrial production prevalent at the time.
Luciano Frigerio's philosophy has positively influenced the company, leading it to look to the international market. Over the years, the company has opened showrooms in various Italian cities, becoming a point of reference for lovers of design and high cabinetry.
The Frigerio company has received awards at various industry events, contributing to its reputation for excellence in furniture design. After Luciano Frigerio's death in 1999, the company's legacy has continued through his work, which has been exhibited in major art galleries in Italy and abroad, contributing to its notoriety in the world of high-quality furniture design.
