Jean Roger Life Size Green Ceramic Lettuce Lamp Paris 1950's
About the Item
Jean Roger is one of the World’s most renowned ceramicists, his career began in 1947 after the end of the second world war, when he moved to Paris and established his first workshop. In 1953 he started to focus his prodigious talent upon creating pieces that were influenced and inspired by the natural world, it was after this time that he created his famous ceramic Frog, Palm Trees and Pineapples, and then the Iconic ‘lettuce’, which took the form of a tureen and the exceptional table lamp, which we have in our collection.
His list of famous clients included Dior, Coco Chanel, Jansen, Sacks and Jackie Kennedy, who personally visited Jean Roger’s studio to place her own personal orders. Even the Shah of Iran was a fan of Roger’s masterful ceramics, and engaged the artist to create thousands of candle holders for the reception tables of the Persepolis Night.
The images speak for themselves of the talent of Jean Roger and the lifelike qualities he bestowed upon his pieces. This item is in exceptional condition, with only one tiny abrasion to the glaze at the back.

He took over an abandoned pottery studio at the age of 24 in Vallauris, where he worked with Robert Picault and then Jean Derval. Capron’s ceramic workshop, known as "l'Atelier Callis", contributed to the renaissance of ceramics in Vallauris and at its peak employed over 120 ceramicists.
