About the Item
Swedish Art Deco Scones by Arno Glossner for Bohlmarks, Sweden, 1938.
Actually an object that should belong in a design museum. In Arno Glössner's glass etching of Triton is a figure from Greek mythology. Triton often depicted as a merman or a sea god with the upper body of a human and the lower body of a fish. He is usually described as the son of Poseidon, the god of the sea, and Amphitrite, a sea goddess. Triton appears in various myths and stories related to the sea, often playing a minor role in the tales of other gods and heroes. He is sometimes depicted as a benevolent figure, helping sailors and guiding them through rough waters, while in other stories, he is shown as a powerful and sometimes unpredictable force of the sea. This motif could certainly give rise to exciting conversations. Also, take a look at the other similar Arno Glössner scone, which depicts Leviathan.

Actually an object that should belong in a design museum. In Arno Glössner's glass etching, one could discern an era marked by profound societal upheavals and the looming threat of World War II. The artwork resonates with the imagery of Leviathan, a colossal sea monster resembling a massive fish or whale. In various mythologies, Leviathan is portrayed as one of the most formidable creatures of the sea, sometimes associated with Triton, the sea god, as its master. However, depictions and interpretations of Leviathan vary across different traditions and sources, adding layers of complexity to its symbolism. "Leviathan" is a groundbreaking book in political philosophy, authored by the English philosopher Thomas Hobbes...Category
