The Space Age Era, or Atomic Age, has been a very prolific couple of decades for design worldwide. Italy was no exceptions, with designers the likes of Joe Colombo, Goffredo Reggiani and Anna Castelli Ferrieri creating some timeless icons of which many are still produced to these days. But it wasn't all about resounding names: also lesser known designers created interesting pieces, often with a very personal and recognisable style. Amongst these certainly stands out Enrico Tronconi, whose area of interest was lighting design: he created several different pieces ranging from ceiling lamps and sconces to floor and table lamps. Most of them feature metal blades that resemble rocket propellers or air-cooled car engines. The present sconce, measuring 30cm in diameter, has indeed two wide blades painted in ochre and three smaller ones highlighted by a chrome coating. It is preserved in good conditions and only has minor signs of use; it's a stunning piece both when lit and when off. It is hardwired (220V standard) and has recently been rewired by a certified electrician. For more vintage Italian furniture...
