Very rare item by famous and world renowned, avant garde "Mad Potter of Biloxi" George Ohr; known for creating many of his pieces with an abstract design, incorporating sexual and erotic themes, much in the same manner as Georgia O'Keefe (there is, in fact an "Ohr--O'Keefe Museum".
Many talented potters have tried to imitate his artistry, but with zero success, as his style is indigenous to himself----George Ohr. For more information it would behoove the interested antique historian and potter to acquire the authoritative book on the subject and the man, "The Mad Potter of Biloxi" written by Eugene Hechte, Garth Clark and Robert Ellison; published in 1989.
This bank is circa 1895 and is in completely original and excellent condition, with zero restoration, no cracks, and the original surface. It is clearly marked with the appropriate markings on the underneath (see images) "G.E Ohr, Biloxi Miss." indicating a date of 1895 as is documented in the reference book "Mad Potter oif Biloxi" on page 78. This was George Ohr's period of thin walled vessels and "Biloxi bisque". The bank resembles a bag of money and reveals the coin slot on the side, beneath and between a "fold". One of the reasons this bank is so rare is, that to remove the coins the bank had to be broken; not to mention, having been made of pottery, it was prone to breakage over time, regardless. A highly whimsical & amusing wall mounted diorama, featuring a mixed media three-dimensional interior depicting figures in a forested landscape who have happened upon a cache of lost parts belonging to the famous Canadian military aircraft ‘The Avro Arrow’.
The scene is described by the artists hand in script, as observed on the outer front edge of the case which reads....“While deep in the woods on a fishing trip, Dave & Sydney stumble upon the lost cache of Avro Arrow parts”.
Signed & dated 1992, and signed & dated again on the reverse.
The multi-tiered case measuring 16” wide x 11.75” high x 7” deep.
Terry Pfliger (1947-2016) was an American born and highly accomplished professional artist & educator. He taught visual arts at Loyalist College & Vocational Institute in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, before accepting the position as head of the art department at St. Lawrence College also in Kingston Ontario, which he held from 1973-95. Afterwards he moved to Michigan where he taught art at Southwestern Michigan College and was elected Professor Emeritus.
He exhibited for several years in both solo & group exhibitions in Ontario Canada, and in Michigan, USA.

Bura fired clay heads, possibly 3rd-10th c. CE, Niger, Bura peoples. These are very expressive examples on custom mounts, the larger with manganese deposits.
Between the 3rd and 10th centuries, the dead were laid to rest at a site in present-day Niger downstream from the Inland Niger delta. The burial ground’s density and expanse suggest a veritable city of the departed. Several hundred individual graves were marked by upturned pottery urns, some of which were cylinders topped by figurative imagery. The most elaborate of these were full-bodied equestrians, while the most basic were highly abstract, independent heads.

Early antique Russian Travelling Icon in bronze, 18th Century or earlier

This is an early Russian orthodox travelling Icon, hand made of bronze, which we date to 18th Century or earlier.
The bronze icon is cast with a main rectangular slightly curved shape with a smaller rectangular tab section above. The reverse has a hanging spigot cast into the top tab section. This piece has a mix of colours within the bronze with the high points being worn and shiny from wear and use.
This antique bronze icon probably depicts Saint Nicholas as the central image with other figures ( children?) either side of the head, all within a border. There are other details on the icon including letters and numbers towards the top of the main rectangle. The tab section is also decorated.
The reverse also carries decoration but is quite worn.
Overall an early and very interesting Russian bronze Icon...
