Georgian Bachelors Teapot Sterling Silver by Joseph Preedy, London 1817
About the Item
This is a fine quality Bachelors teapot in solid Sterling Silver, beautifully hand chased and dating to the late Georgian period of George 111rd, 1817.
The teapot has a circular compressed form, supported by four small ball feet. It has a solid cast handle with a leaf scroll thumb rest and a push fit lid having an unusual cast finial knob depicting a semi reclining person. The teapot is finely hand chased with a Rococo Revival design of scrolling leaves, shells and stylized flowers, with a mid diameter border of leaf and shell motifs.
The teapot was made by Joseph Preedy (IP) of London and has a full set of Sterling Silver, stamped hall marks for 1817 (b), to the lower body at the side of the handle. The lid is also hall marked.
The teapot is made of a heavy gauge silver and weighs 12.03 Ounces ( 340.9 grams).
