A Charles II Sterling Silver Trefid Spoon by John King London in 1683
About the Item
A good Charles II silver trefid spoon by john King and hallmarked in London in 1683 with a plain rat tail. It has an oval bowl with a thick gauge silver handle with pin engraved initials G & L to the reverse of the terminal.
The hallmarks have some light rubbing commensurate with age and are still legible - please look at the images.
The spoon measures Height: 20 cm Width: 4.5 cm and weighs 53 grams.

The body of this impressive antique silver jug is embellished with an impressive engraved scrolling leaf bodered coat of arms depicting on a fess three five-pinted stars between three griffens' heads erased. This impressive example of Georgian silverware is fitted with a cast sterling silver S scroll handle ornamented with an impressive scrolling leaf thumbpiece and bifurcating lower scrolling terminal. The cast beak style spout of the jug is embellished with a vase-shaped moulding to the nadir. The circular spreading foot is embellished with bands of tooled decoration. Note: The London Assay Office have missing records in the Smallworkers' Register (1739-1758) and Largeworkers' Register (1758-1773), and it can be determined that this maker's mark was registered within this timeframe.
