Pair of Antique English Chelsea-Derby Porcelain Neoclassical Rim Soup Plates
About the Item
Very rare and fine pair of antique English Chelsea-Derby porcelain neoclassical garlands and roses pattern rim soup plates (Variation of Pattern No. 37 as noted by Dr. Derek Thomas of the Derby Porcelain International Society). Painted in the manner of Edward Withers
The black dots on some of the images are firing pits caused during the time the plates were made and are not anything but firing flaws - no damage and no restoration. The three "spur marks" on the back side of the plate along the rim edge are typical for this type of early porcelain and, again, is not a flaw. (The kiln spur is used to support the piece as it is being fired in the kiln so that it is raised above the floor of the kiln itself).
Also similar to a pattern as illustrated on pg. 157 (plate 173) in Twitchett's "Derby Porcelain"
With rare blue "Chelsea- Derby" mark (post factory purchase by William Duesbury).
