Worcester Barr Period Coffee Can Porcelain Hand Painted, circa 1800
About the Item
A very good Porcelain Coffee Can with a ring handle, hand decorated with an orange and gilt pattern by Worcester during the Barr period, fully marked to the base and dating to circa 1792-1807.
This is a well potted Coffee Can with nominally parallel sides and a ring handle.
The pattern is hand painted with a finely gilded pattern, having an upper border of gilded leaves in panels with further gilded borders below, the lower one against an orange ground colour. There is further gilding to the top rim, outer handle and two gilded rings above the base rim. A similar Coffee can by Worcester with a different pattern is illustrated in the book: A Compendium of British Cups by Michael Berthoud on Page 38, Plate 223.
The base has a scratched or incised "B".
Overall a fine example of the high quality decoration on Coffee Cans produced by Worcester in this period, and in remarkable condition for over 220 years old.
