Large Goldscheider Vienna Group, Dancer With Violinist, by Josef Lorenzl, c 1930
About the Item
Rare Art Déco Goldscheider Figure Group Of The 1930s:
Gallant couple: dancer in a fan-like flared dress with flounces and floral decoration with her upper body and crossed legs leaning on the right side of the violinist standing behind her in a low-cut shirt and trousers and in a pose resting her head on his shoulder, on her shoulders a large red cloth,
that reaches to the ground.
The group is based on a large, round, stepped, base in cream, with gray shaded walls, artist's signature 'Lorenzl' on the back of the dancer, at the bottom of the cloth.
Designed by Josef LORENZL (1892 - 1950), one of the most important designers who worked for the Goldscheider manufactory in the period of 1920 - 1940.
This Model 5871 was created circa 1929.

Josef Lorenzl
Josef Lorenzl was born in Vienna on 1st September 1892. He started out working at the Vienna Arsenal in the foundry, where he learned the techniques of bronze casting. Working from a studio in the company’s grounds, he was able to produce many bronze and chryselephantine sculptures. Lorenzl was captivated by the female form he became well known for his shapely dancing girls with long, elegant legs and closed eyes. Lorenzl also was a gifted ceramicist, producing pieces for Goldscheider.
