About the Item
A legendary master potter of the German Bauhaus School, Eugene Deutch was born in Hungary in 1904, and after studying in France with Constantin Brancusi, moved to Chicago in 1927 where he stayed, pursuing his life's work of sculpture and classically modern functional ceramic art.
This collection focuses on an important mid-century period when his work was being refined and acknowledged.

- Unique Piece--Maarten Baas Burned Ikea Chair from Where There's Smoke ExhibitionBy Maarten BaasLocated in Hamden, CTMaarten Baas (1978) is a Dutch designer and a graduate of the famed Design Academy Eindhoven (2002). He is of the generation that followed immediately after the breakthrough 1993 landmark exhibition in Milan - Droog Design.- an assemblage of work produced by independent Dutch design studios working throughout the Netherlands. Addressing mostly ordinary domestic articles so intelligently and aesthetically re-thought and re=worked. that they reverberated throughout all of Art and Design, Maarten Baas was influenced greatly by the fresh and imaginative free-thinking which was taught at the school. Today Baas is considered one of the most influential designers working across multiple disciplines, deviating from conventional art processes while working with conventional art materials such as clay, metal, wood, and video. Baas is known for his conceptual, metaphorical, and most often amusing results which trigger the viewer to reconsider their own ambivalence toward the material world. This chair was commissioned by MOSS gallery in New York in 2004 and was offered as part of a solo exhibition called Where There's Smoke...Category
