Antique plate with peacock pattern by Friedrich Festersen, Germany 1900s
About the Item
Very rare decorative plate. Made by Freidrich Festeresen between 1909 and 1916. It has a peacock pattern which appears to have flowed out to much on one side. This outflow gives it an almost psychedelic appearance. Beside the works by Festersen are rare, the fact that a "misprint" was not discarded makes it even more rare.
The plate is still in very good condition without any chips or cracks. The clear-coat has craquelé as can be expected with ceramics of over 100 years old.
35cm in Ø.
Friedrich Festersen was a German potter, designer and decorator. His year of birth is not known, but he died in 1916.
He is known for his schwaemmeln work - sponge decoration - and his peacock feather designs. His pottery, which he opened in 1909, was known as Friedrich Festersen's Kunsttoepferei GmbH until his death and then became Festersen's Kunsttoepferei GmbH Nachfolger. He is known to have been associated with Deutsche Werkstaetten fuer Handwerkskunst. His work from 1909 to 1916 was marked 'Festersen'.
In October 1909 Festersen was welcomed into the team for German Crafts in Berlin
