About the Item
Brilliantly glazed in chartreuse-yellow and Mediterranean blue-green, this unique and important Art Deco bowl was made by Erwin Winterhalder in Cupertino. The artist was born in Switzerland and later studied under Alexander Stirling Calder at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, before moving to the San Francisco area in 1913. He created ceramic tiles for architectural commissions and was a highly-respected ceramicist in the Bay Area for decades. This bowl is especially vivid and ambitious.
