Derby-style porcelain Mazarine blue ground punch bowl with Botanical interior and landscape panels to exterior,
Edmé Samson et Cie, Paris,
19th century
The footed porcelain punch bowl is superbly painted to the interior and exterior. The interior with well-painted bouquets of flowers at the four quadrants and the center of the well. The mazarine-blue ground exterior with two large oval panels depicting different landscapes. One is a town square and the other a country house grounds with an impressive church building in the distance. The blue ground with superb gilt stylized scrolled leaves and fruit.
The Square is after The Entrance to London by the Obelisk in the Surrey Road. Illustration for London South of the Thames by Sir Walter Besant (A & C Black, 1912). The building in the background is the Surrey Theatre.
