Art Deco Tantalus with Three Blue Cut Glass Engraved Decanters lockable, French
About the Item
This is a beautiful Tantalus with THREE blue glass engraved decanters from the Art Deco period, probably made in France.
The Tantalus frame is beautifully designed and made, in the geometric shape and lines which so epitomises the Art Deco period. The frame is made of bird's-eye Maple with other woods, with brass fittings including a carrying handle and lock to the front. The glass decanters are stored on a central open box structure that pulls out like a drawer, that is lockable. The base of the frame has a soft beize lining to the underside, to allow it to sit on a surface without scratching.
There are three matching cut-glass, mallet shaped, decanter bottles that are made of a light blue coloured glass. They are all hand engraved with slight differences in the engraving as expected. They have spherical cut-glass stoppers.
Glass bottle dimensions in inches: Base diameter: 3.13, height: 8.75.
The lockable drawer key is included.
There are no makers marks that we can find but we attribute this fine piece to France, circa 1920s. This piece is very 'In Period' in its shape and design.
In summary, a beautiful, decorative and usable piece.
