Art Deco silver and bakelite Cocktail Shaker by Folke Arström
About the Item
This modernist looking Art Deco cocktail shaker is silver plated with a bakelite cap. Clean lines, asymmetrical composition and elegant engraved lines at the base are the selling point of this item. It is an iconic piece that will make a tasteful decorative object. It is in good condition and relatively lightweight which makes it still fully usable as a shaker nearly 90 years after its creation.
The shaker is stamped.
Folke Aström (1907-1997) was a Swedish designer specialised in tableware. He is known for introducing stainless steel as a material for everyday cutlery in times where it was not yet common use. He succeeded in implementing the practice that by presenting elegant and beautiful designs for forks, spoons and knives. He worked as a designer for GAB from 1935 to 1940 after which he became director of Gense in Eskilstuna. This shaker is a beautiful artefact from a short but very creative period. His work is part of several important museums such as the Swedish National Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
