Timeless Elegance: Anna-Lisa Thomson's Iconic Earthenware Vase from the 1930s.

About the Item

Earthenware vase, designed by Anna-Lisa Thomson for Upsala Ekeby in the 1930s. Exquisitely crafted, harmonious proportions accentuated by intricate underwater-themed relief decorations, all complemented by a gentle off-white glaze. This versatile piece is perfectly sized, serving as a captivating standalone decorative item or as an elegant vessel for showcasing flowers. Despite its age, the vase remains in remarkable condition, bearing only minor imperfections such as small glaze bubbles, a charming reminder of its artisanal manufacturing process. Anna-Lisa Thomson, a luminary in the realms of Swedish painting and ceramics, honed her craft at Konstfack, the distinguished bastion of arts, crafts, and design in Stockholm, as well as abroad. Her artistic journey led her to the esteemed St:Erik's pottery factory from 1928 to 1933, where she ascended to the role of artistic director during the 1930s. In 1933, Thomson embarked on a new chapter, joining the creative milieu of Upsala Ekeby, collaborating with luminaries such as Sven Erik Skawonius and Vicke Lindstrand. Here, she etched her legacy by birthing timeless series like the iconic Paprika, Athene, and Marina. Spanning from diminutive figurines to grandiose floor vases, Thomson's creations bore the hallmark of simplicity in design, with motifs that paid homage to the allure of nature. Rooted in her idyllic summer retreat on the windswept shores of Sweden's western coast, her oeuvre exuded a harmonious blend of artistry and the organic world. Thomson 's ceramic received awards in Paris 1937 and New York 1939. Manufactured at Uppsala Ekeby. Please refer to the accompanying images for details.
