French Art Nouveau Majolica Planter Jardiniere by Hector Guimard Barbotine
About the Item
Hector Guimard was a renowned French architect and designer who is best known for his Art Nouveau style. He was born in Lyon in 1867 and later moved to Paris, where he became a prominent figure in the architectural and design circles of the city.
One of Guimard's famous works is the Cachepot 'Vase de Chalmont', which was created around 1900. The piece was executed by Gustave de Bruyn & Fils, a ceramics manufacturer based in Fives-Lille. The Cachepot is made of majolica with vibrant glaze in green colors contrasted with a light blue interior.
The green glaze of the Cachepot adds a touch of freshness and liveliness to the piece. The shape of the vase is curvaceous and fluid, with organic shapes and motifs that are typical of the Art Nouveau style. The cachepots sculptural form adds a decorative element to any room.
Overall, the Cachepot 'Vase de Chalmont' is a prime example of Guimard's innovative and organic Art Nouveau style. The piece showcases his use of natural motifs and flowing lines, as well as his talent for creating functional objects that are also works of art. The Cachepot remains an iconic and highly sought-after piece of Art Nouveau design.
