Chinese Dahua Meditation Stone
About the Item
Set upon its side, we display this dahua stone like a traditional scholars' rock (gongshi). Meditating on the stone’s irregular composition, the Qing-dynasty scholar sought inspiration in the sculptural form and unpredictable patterning of a well-chosen stone. Dahua stones are dredged from the depths of the Red River in China's Guangxi province, where a silt-laden current naturally polishes each stone and deposits layers of strata over time. Prized for their density and warm tones, dahua stones such as this are a favorite way to texture interiors.
