Black Efflorescence I, Floral Black Stoneware Ceramic Sculpture by Vanessa Hogge
About the Item
Black Efflorescence I is a unique hand-sculpted stoneware sculpture completely covered in a variety of flowers and blooms, each individually handmade by the British artist Vanessa Hogge.
Vanessa Hogge breathes life into her clay in the form of dahlias, chrysanthemums, agapanthus, daisies, agaves and roses. Inspired by her passion for all things botanical, and influences as diverse as Frida Kahlo, Georgia O’Keefe and Marianne North.
Grounded by years of expertise in ceramics, she takes an instinctive, visceral approach to each piece, painstakingly sculpting every petal and anther by hand so that no two flowers are identical. Her creations are organic and ornate, stylised and purposeful but with an element of spontaneity.
Striking as singular statement pieces, these can also be grouped to create still lives and wall installations. Where the porcelain brings subtlety the stoneware brings drama.

- Ceramic Sculpture Antonia Head by Vanessa SemainoBy Rossana OrlandiLocated in Milan, ITThe “Surolù” art works - this is artistic identity chosen by Vanessa Semaino - arise from the artist 's need to represent women’s condition today, particularly in their emotional states that confer their unique identities. These precious ceramic sculptures, entirely handcrafted and decorated, represent female Moor’s heads. They were conceived as an expression of an introspective journey that relates Vanessa’s Sicilian origins and to her professional experience in the fashion stylistic field. The artist introduces, for the first time, the repeated use of sociological themes of current relevance through a visually immediate language, represented in her art works with a contemporary pop aesthetic. In contemporary art, the interpretation of the seven deadly sins offers artists an opportunity to explore the complex nuances of humanity. Antonia is a particularly intriguing and fascinating artwork that embodies the sin of gluttony in the reinterpretation of the seven deadly sins. The woman depicted is a clear homage to Holly, the famous character from the renowned film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” In the artwork, “Antonia,” a woman of great elegance, wears the iconic black dress with long gloves and a beautiful pearl necklace, which strongly allude to the film’s most iconic scene. The artist’s contemporary reinterpretation captures the image evoked by the celebratory reference to the scene from which the film took its name, “breakfast at Tiffany’s,” and returns it to us with an ironic twist that almost conceals the subtle social provocation conveyed by the use of gold chains and bracelets that serve as noodles in the artwork. In fact, Antonia is depicted avidly eating, but always with great elegance, using Japanese...Category
