"Momento of the 1893 World's Fair, " Bronze Relief w/ American Indian Motif
About the Item
Superbly sculpted and highly detailed, this very fine bronze relief dated 1892 -- designed by Lodovico Pogliaghi and sculpted by Angelo Cappuccio for Stefano Johnson in Milan -- depicts a cluster of nude American Indians below, looking up toward the allegorical figure of "Civilization" holding a cornucopia and held aloft by a crowd of putti. Issued to celebrate the great World's Fair in Chicago, the bronze depicts the City of Washington in the distance.
