  • Monumental Marble "Matrix" Sculpture by Robert Winslow
    By Robert Winslow
    Located in Chicago, IL
Elevate your art collection with this exceptional, monumental, freestanding marble sculpture by acclaimed artist Robert Winslow (b. 1950). Created in 1988 and titled “Matrix”, this awe-inspiring artwork offers you a unique opportunity to own an extraordinary piece that showcases the pinnacle of sculptural expression. Measuring an impressive 85" H x 60" W x 38" D, the sculpture is comprised of 12 hand-fabricated, interlocking slabs of solid, polished, dark gray marble stone with white veining. The warm dark gray color often appears as black, depending on the lighting. Each 1.25" thick slab has been skillfully carved and assembled to form an abstract, geometric, multi-plane sculpture with a striking three-dimensional presence. Winslow's masterful craftsmanship is evident in the bullnose rounded edges and gracefully curved slots that ensure there are no sharp edges in the piece. This breathtaking sculpture captures Winslow's innovative approach to design and creative genius, through the captivating array of geometric shapes, angular forms, fluid lines, and sweeping curves. Each piece is a unique shape. The alternating directions of the interlocking pieces add to the sense of movement and dynamism in the sculpture. Four tall marble slabs create the sculpture’s leg structure, creating an abstract anthropomorphic form that appears as if it could walk away at any moment. The creation of the "Matrix" sculptures demanded an extraordinary amount of time and effort from Winslow, especially before the advent of modern 3D rendering and CNC cutting technologies. To ensure the stability and proper fit of these freestanding sculptures, Winslow meticulously crafted multiple maquettes using wood, plaster, and metal. The resulting sculptures are celebrated for their seamless forms, interplay of negative space, and harmoniously counterbalanced protrusions. Originally commissioned by an Executive Vice President of McDonald's Corporation for his Oak Brook, IL home, this monumental masterpiece is now available for the first time on the market since its creation. Rarely do works of this scale and complexity come to market! This “Matrix” sculpture would make a stunning statement piece in a Minimalist entryway foyer or modern living room. Don't miss this unparalleled opportunity to own a breathtaking example of Robert Winslow's artistry and elevate your space with a true conversation starter. Biography: Robert Winslow (b. 1950) is a distinguished American sculptor and painter who rose to prominence in the late 1970s.
