"Socialite with Ostrich Fan, " Art Deco Masterpiece in Porcelain by Meissen
About the Item
One of the most sophisticated and detailed depictions of Art Deco elegance and fashion we have ever offered, this 1929-era porcelain sculpture depicts a tall, beautiful woman, gorgeously attired, holding an ostrich fan and looking downward. The sculptor, Paul Scheurich, was known for his arch, exaggerated depictions of elegant figures, often influenced by the Rococo period, but in this case he seems to be capturing his subject in a quite, meditative moment. Note the sharp, remarkable details, including the woman's eyes, earrings, and hands, the expressive folds of her dress, and the way her attire barely veils the beauty of her torso. Scheurich is known for his bronzes, as well as his work in porcelain for Meissen, Karlsruhe, Nymphenburg and KPM Berlin.
