Pair of patinated bronze sculptures after Giambologna

Measures: Mercury height 86cm, width 19cm, depth 27cm
Fortuna height 83cm, width 18cm, depth 28cm
This pair of figures are based on sculptures by the Renaissance, or Mannerist, sculptor Giambologna. They depict the Classical Roman figures Mercury and Fortuna. Mercury is the male figure shown wearing a winged helmet, and holding a staff, known as the caduceus, in his left hand. Fortuna is depicted as a female figure raising her hand into the air. Each figure is shown supported by a gust of wind issuing forth from a mask. The masks are set on cylindrical plinths, which feature cherub decorations in relief.
