About the Item
French gilt metal sculpture on Neoclassical pedestal by Ernest Rancoulet
French, early 20th century
Measures: Height 165cm, width 34cm, depth 34cm
This fine sculpture group is by the French artist Ernest Rancoulet, who lived from 1870 until 1915. The sculpture, crafted from gilt metal, depicts a young couple in an outdoor environment. The young man holds a branch over the woman’s head, who walks beneath it with evident happiness. Both are superbly rendered in a naturalistic manner, and both stand on an integral ground littered with foliage and stones.
The sculpture is supported by a tapering wooden pedestal crafted in the Neoclassical style. The pedestal is superbly veneered and adorned with gilt bronze mounts, including rosettes, foliate swags, and bunches of leaves and flowers.
The base of the sculpture is signed 'Rancoulet'.
