Dumb Head Sculpture of Cement
About the Item
Edouard Sankowski individually sculpts these pieces from plaster, cement (shown here), alabaster he selects, and brass accents and contrasts…
The Dumb heads are a series that have come out of a number of drawings, or scribblings Edouard had been making in an attempt to capture and define an air of dumbfoundedness, or daze.
Believing he’d circled and defined what he was after, he thought these would be both more challenging and more fun to execute as sculptures than remain simple line drawings on paper.
The very first Alabaster fruit Edouard made was this apple for his wife's birthday. An exact duplicate of the fruit she couldn't come to terms with enjoying with more than just her eyes, the fruit lives forever in their home.
Each piece in the series is unique, sculpted by hand and presents unique traits due to the nature of the materials employed and the work expressed upon them, varying from piece to piece in shape, color and weight. Items will differ from the image.
The image is provided solely as a visual aid of what to expect from made-to-order items.
All pieces are signed and hand-made in France.

Krzywda
Since 2003, Edouard Sankowski has been designing and sculpting. In 2015 he structures KRZYWDA (pronounce "SHIVDA") as a transatlantic venture dedicated to the design and fabrication of his artwork, fine objects and furniture. Leveraging his intuition and a Bauhaus school of thought inherited from his father Alexander, who as an architect, engineer, designer and artist, was a close collaborator to Mies van der Rohe, Philip Johnson, IM Pei... Edouard works with a similar process: noble materials, a meticulous dedication to craftsmanship and an exploration of new approaches from the first drawing up until the work is delivered. Working out of the French countryside with only a handful of collaborators, Edouard intentionally limits his output generating a limited number of projects yearly, privileging quality over quantity. All pieces are signed and hand-made in France.
