Pair of French 19th Century Egyptian Revival St. Busts of Ramses and Isis

About the Item

A very handsome pair of French 19th century Egyptian Revival st. busts of Ramses the II and his wife Isis, signed by Pierre-Eugène-Émile Hébert. Each is raised on a black Belgian marble base with ormolu trim and etched eagle design on the front, accented with ormolu details. Rouge Griotte marble borders the top and bottom of central column which has a similar design gilt-etched below the names Isis and Ramses. Above are the impeccably carved patinated bronze busts of the Pharaoh and his wife with wonderful expressions accented with finely chased ormolu head dress, wide necklaces and scepters. Ramses II, also known as Ramesses the Great, is regarded as the greatest, most celebrated and most powerful pharaoh of the Egyptian Empire. He ruled during the New Kingdom for over 66 years. Isetnofret also known as Isis, was one of the Great Royal Wives of Pharaoh Ramesses II and was the mother of his heir, Merneptah. She was one of the most prominent of the royal wives, along with Nefertari, and was the chief queen after Nefertari's death.
