Museum Worthy Antique Bronze Coiled Rattlesnake Sculpture Signed & Marked 1885

World class, aesthetically marvelous and extremely rare rattle snake culpture.
Over the decades we have sold some really good antique bronzes, but we feel that this diamondback rattler could very well be the rarest, the most detailed and the best condition antique bronze we ever had the pleasure of owning and offering. When you search the worldwide web you will hardly find any antique bronze rattle snakes, let alone one of this extreme quality, details and museum worthy condition. This masterpiece is signed and dated, but unfortunately we have been unable to read/'decipher' the signature. This clearly seems to be a name from the western world, but we simply are unable to read what is written/engraved. What we can see is that the details of this diamond back are truly world class. We, for example, love the way the body and skin of this coiled rattlesnake 'deform' exactly in the right way when there is either pressure or no pressure applied. It takes a very special kind of artist to be able to execute this in such a pure and naturalistic manner. So if you are a collector with an eye for top quality hand-crafted sculptures of animals in general and of snakes or reptiles in particular OR if you are the curator of a museum in a country or city where rattlesnakes live and 'respected' then you will immediately realize that this antique bronze rattlesnake can only be the work of a master craftsman. It never ceases to amaze us when an artist is capable of perfectly capturing the soul of another living being in a sculpture. It seems a god given talent that is only very rarely discovered anymore. We feel this artisan left us (art lovers) a sculpture of museum quality and condition which will look great no matter where you decide to have it on display.
