Yellow Curved Abstract Contemporary Sculpture by Merete Rasmussen
About the Item
Yellow Curved Form, 2023 (Ceramic, C. 14.5 in. h x 22.4 in. w x 17.7 in. d, Object No.: 4190)
Merete works with abstract sculptural form and is interested in the way one defines and comprehends space through physical form. Her ceramic creations represent an idea of a captured movement. Rasmussen’s idea manifests as a flowing form, stretching and curling around itself, or can derive from repeated natural forms, or even complex mathematical constructions. Different expressions of form appeal to the artist and result in her continuous exploration with newfound variations. She creates and is inspired by soft but precise curves, sharp edges, concave surfaces shifting to convex ones, the discovery of inner space, and the strength of negative space. Merete is intrigued by designs about continuity — one connected edge running through an entire form. Rasmussen’s use of strong colors builds importance, strength, and energy in her work.
