24-Legged Black Glazed Ceramic Sculpture
About the Item
This year I began focussing on the feet of a piece. How can I change the personality of the artwork by changing the feet it stands on? This challenging piece has many longer feet, 24 in fact. They appear a little wobbly-looking and delicate, but stable. The artist's hand is visible, exposing the intrinsic variations of a hand made object.
As yet untitled, it is hand built of dark ceramic stoneware using the traditional hand building techniques of rolling out, cutting and forming a slab, then attaching coiled feet in an almost random pattern. After the first firing, a dense black glaze is applied and the piece is fired a second time. This glaze has tiny speckles and variations in tone, adding to the depth of the surface.
Signed with hand-carved Artist's Chop on the underneath.

Helena Starcevic Ceramics
Helena Starcevic Ceramics produces work that straddles the line between fine and decorative art. Each piece is one of a kind, hand-built entirely by the artist in her New York studio. Taking inspiration from the natural world, Ms. Starcevic's work includes references to the stark beauty of the desert, prehistoric cave paintings, and the human form (within and without). Everything is filtered through Ms. Starcevic’s own singular aesthetic, at once quiet yet strong, meditative, and beautiful. Pieces are made in different clays and finishes, and at different scales. Groupings are available. Helena Starcevic’s ceramic pieces are held in private collections across the US and Europe. She has held numerous residencies including one at the Museum of Art and Design in New York City.
None will be identical, but color options available
