About the Item
Grande pendule formée d’un vase couvert de forme ovoïde en porcelaine d’Imari, ère Meiji période historique du Japon entre 1868 et 1912. Riche monture en bronze ciselé et doré à décor d’animaux fantastiques, chien de Fô à l’amortissement qui symbolise la richesse. Cette pendule est caractéristique d’une pratique en vogue à la fin du XIXe siècle, issue du goût alors très prononcé pour l’Extrême-Orient, destinées à prendre place dans les intérieurs les plus somptueux.
HISTOIRE
Le Japon s’ouvre au monde extérieur en 1868, les artistes japonais influencèrent fortement les artistes européens. Cet emballement pour le japonisme commence alors avec des collectionneurs parisiens et des connaisseurs qui apprécient la qualité et l’élégance de ces objets d’art.
Le japonisme, qui n’a cessé de croître dans la deuxième moitié des années 1870, atteint son apogée à l’Exposition Universelle de Paris en 1878, où le Japon est exceptionnellement bien représenté. Les critiques d’art européens, et surtout français, considèrent le Japon comme un paradis inviolé et c’est cette approche qu’ils livrent au public.
