Mid-Century French Handcrafted Brutalist Iron Chain Link Candleholder
About the Item
An authentic, brutalist, mid-century modern chain candleholder sourced in France. This is a spiked candleholder made for pillar candles (up to a maximum of approximately 12 cm/ 4 3/4" in diameter) and tabletop usage. A one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted object most likely dating from the 1950/60s. The candleholder features no maker's marks or signatures. Thick iron chain-links have been welded together and mounted/welded to a sturdy square iron base. Despite its brutalist style, attention has been made to details. The base and the round drip pan/wax pan have been carefully hammered with a decorative motif (see photos). The surface of the candleholder has a wonderful finish that resembles aged bronze. The candleholder is very sturdy thanks to its weight and the size of its base (the candleholder weights and impressive 5.5 kg/ 12 lbs). This is definitely one of the best, authentic, vintage chain candleholders I have come across.
In very good vintage condition. The surface of the candleholder has not been polished nor treated in any other way. It still has its original patina that comes with age. The candleholder has no missing sections or repairs. The candleholder shows minor signs of wear consistent with use and age (see photos).

- Mid-Century Modern French Original Signed Oil Panting of Wine Still-LifeLocated in COLMAR, FRA moody still-life very much in a mid-century spirit. This vintage oil painting on stretched canvas has been sourced in the wine region of Alsace, France. It is very likely that it has been painted in this region as well since the wine bottles and the tall glass depicted have the typical shapes of Alsace wine bottles wine glasses. The painting is signed by the artist in the lower right corner and dated December (XII) 1960. In addition, as can be seen in the lower left corner, the painting has been dedicated to René Fullgraff (In Memoriam). The artist has efficiently experimented with contrasts of dark shadows and lighter, sharp reflections in this artwork. There is also a visible study of vertical and horizontal lines still visible. And last but not least, a lovely work with layers and textures (see photos). The result is a somewhat dramatic and masculine, mid-century still-life. Perfect for a dining room, kitchen or library. Maybe over a MCM bar cart...Category
