About the Item
Chinese export lacquered hand painted octagonal chinoiserie teacaddy , black with gold decoration. The interior has two hand engraved pewter tea boxes, each with double lids to keep the tea fresh. This fine teacaddy has hand carved feet, ogee shaped lid and crisp decoration on every surface, essentially meaning there are 17 vignettes delicately painted. The central panel of the top has some wear. This elegant teacaddy was made for the American or European markets and transported by sailing ship from China in the early 19th century, circa 1820.
