About the Item
This is a porcelain box which we use during tea ceremony. It is called Kougou. This was made in Japan around 1950s in Showa era. This was made with style 'Seto'. In seto ware, this kougou was made with Kiseto ware style.
This item will come with a wooden box.
Seto ware is a type of Japanese pottery, stoneware, and ceramics produced in and around the city of Seto in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The Japanese term for it, setomono, is also used as a generic term for all pottery. Seto was the location of one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan. Kiseto has a yellow glaze. (Wikipedia)
Kougou: Incense containers. Also called koubako. Small, lidded containers usually made of lacquer or ceramic, and sometimes wood, shell or metal, for storing the aromatic wood burned as incense. Kougou are considered tea utensils because the incense chips koboku and pastille nerikou are fed into the charcoal ashes used to heat the kettle. Kougou were also displayed on kobukusa (small cloth wrappers) or kamikamashiki (paper kettle-rest) in waiting rooms or tearooms. (JAANUS)
