Borrowed Form #5, Cast Silicon Bronze Vessel
About the Item
Borrowed forms takes on loan shapes of the natural world and translates them into domestic objects. Rocks, charred wood, and forest debris from the Pacific Northwest are selected for form and texture, and their impressions are captured in poured jewelers wax. The wax leaves no trace behind as it peels away-an impactless intervention, as if nothing ever occured. Each resulting cast bronze vessel is unique, a direct portal to the form it is drawn from.
Borrowed form #5 was cast in the Cowichan river valley on Vancouver Island in Canada.

New Format Studio
New Format is a manufacturing and design firm based in Vancouver, Canada, founded in 2013 by principal Henry Norris. We use our background in architectural design and fabrication as the basis for explorations in furniture. Our motivation and interest is to take new ideas and apply them to the built environment around us. As part of our commitment to creating pieces of the highest quality, we produce and finish the majority of our work in house, at our 4000 square foot studio in Vancouver. By keeping our work close at hand, we are able to constantly experiment with the materials and refine our processes. We are inspired by problem solving and the ethos of hand craftsmanship.
