"Salacia Riding Neptune, " Richly-Glazed Bowl by Mayodon, Art Deco Master
About the Item
Vividly glazed in tones of jade, cobalt blue, gold and charcoal, this remarkable, high-style Art Deco bowl was created by Jean Mayodon, the great Art Deco sculptor and ceramicist. The bowl depicts Neptune and Salacia, gliding along an Art Deco sea, over which they ruled. Mayodon created a great variety of ceramic pieces with mythological themes, usually gods and goddesses romping across the land or sea with great joy. This example is one of the best we have seen, and was executed for the famed Sèvres porcelain works.
