Ruskin Arts & Crafts Fine Blue Lustre Style Glazed Bowl
About the Item
A very fine Ruskin Arts & Crafts miniature art pottery bowl decorated with blue lustre style glazes by renowned potter William Howson Taylor (British, 1876 – 1935) dated 1913.
Ruskin were renowned for their brightly glazed pottery using an array of different glazing methods some based on secret formula’s which were derived from earlier Chinese wares. Ruskin remains both highly regarded and collected worldwide and due to the very fine nature of some of the smaller pieces finding fine examples in good condition is becoming harder. The pottery closed in 1935.
The bowl is part of a private collection of Arts and Crafts influenced pottery amassed in the mid 1980’s. The collection originates from a period where monochrome glazes were used to focus more on the shape and design of the pieces. The collection comprises of various notable and important British makers of the period.
This finely potted bowl stands raised on a narrow-rounded pedestal base with a round shaped upper bowl with a raised rim and decorated in deep blue mottled lustre style glazes. The bowl is impressed RUSKIN to the base and is also dated 1913.
