Masons Ironstone Pedestal Bowl in gilded fern Pattern, Georgian period Ca 1818
About the Item
This is a beautiful small Pedestal Bowl made by Mason's Ironstone in the rare gilded fern pattern, dating to the early 19th century, late Georgian period, circa 1818.
Mason's bowls in this shape are rare.
The bowl is circular on a low pedestal foot.
The bowl is decorated in one of Masons rarely seen patterns called;
Gilded Fern, a version of which is illustrated on Page 32 of "A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns" published by The Mason's Collectors' Club. The pattern is hand-painted with gilded ferns all against a dark mazarine blue ground, producing a very striking and distinctive pattern.
The bowl is unmarked as was often the case in pieces of this early period but is definitely made by Masons Ironstone with an early 19th Century Georgian date of circa 1818.
Overall a rare piece of Masons in a striking shape and pattern.
