Japanese antique wood carving "Kirin's legs" /1800s/Shrines and temples carvings

About the Item

Do you know Kirin? It is a type of legendary animal that appears in Chinese mythology, and is a spiritual animal that has been passed down in Japan since ancient times. At first glance, it looks like a carving of a horse, but there are circular carvings on the legs, a pattern that does not exist on horses. I think this is probably an expression of the Kirin's unique body pattern. The giraffe is also a very familiar spiritual animal in Japan, where a beer maker called Kirin Beer uses this spiritual animal as its logo, and there are no Japanese people who don't know it. The Kirin's physical characteristics are similar to a deer, and it is 5 meters tall, with a dragon-like face and a cow's tail and horse's hooves. Please take a look at the reference photos posted. I think they were carved as part of the architectural decoration of shrines and temples. Although this is only the legs, it is a skillful carving technique, and this alone makes it beautiful. This is a rare item. Also, I want many people to know the goodness of antiques, so I set the price reasonably.
