Collection of Japanese and Chinese Masks

About the Item

Collection of eight Japanese and Chinese masks, circa 1950s or earlier. These were recently purchased from the Manhattan estate of a Japanese man who traveled to Asia in the 1940s-1970s purchasing antiques. They retain their warm original patina. The masks are mostly carved wood, but some are metal, or cast composite. The largest mask measures 14.25"H x 9.5"W. The smallest mask measures 5.25"H x 4"W.

  • Condition:
    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. Very good original condition. Various surface scratches, rubs, and wear. One mask has a repaired crack that is only seen upon close inspection. They retain their warm original patina.
