Kitagawa Utamaro Japanese Woodblock Print Edo Semi-Nude Woman Smoking Opium Pipe
About the Item
A beautifully composed and richly colored Japanese woodblock print by Kitagawa Utamaro featuring a semi-undressed kimono-opened nude woman, perhaps a Geisha or courtesan, enjoying a leisurely moment with her opium pipe. A somewhat erotic and risqué image for its time. The work is printed with a beautiful Mica background. From the artist's series "Ten Classes of Women’s Physiognomy (Fujo ninsô juppon)"
This is a later printing of an original work done in the late 1700s.
From an impressive collection of Japanese artworks and prints (of which we will be listing other prints).
Would be a great addition to any Japanese art or print collection or an eye-catching stand-alone accent piece once framed.
