Set of Four Japanese Fusuma Painted Door Panels
About the Item
Rare set of four Japanese Showa period door panels known as Fusuma in Japanese architecture. Similar to a Shoji room divider but made of an opaque material. Constructed from handcrafted mulberry paper and framed with ebonized wood. The panels are painted with a bounty of newly harvested grains and vegetables. Titled "Summer Harvest" and signed by artist Kawamoto Rekitei (Japanese 1894-1975) with a seal. Kawamoto was a famous potter. There is also reference to a poem by "Li Po". Beautifully crafted with ink and color pigments on mulberry paper. From an estate in Malibu, CA. Two of the doors have round inset handles.
