19th Century Asian Hand Carved Screen with Mountains, Trees and Sea Gulls

About the Item

The delicate open hand-carving on this screen is distinctive. This is a late 19th, early 20th century Chinese divider screen made from hand-carved redwood and motifs that include mountains, trees and birds in flight. This rectangular divider rests on two feet and displays skillful carving that creates a beautiful effect as light filters through. The panel is made of a light colored varnished wood that resembles redwood. There is a carved band at the top of the screen that creates a beautiful visual interest point. This is an unusual and appealing piece that is also functional. There is an organic quality to the screen as sunlight filters through the carved cutouts of sky, mountains and birds.
