Antique Japanese Cloisonne Kyoto School Jug

About the Item

An antique Japanese, late Meiji era, enamel over copper water or milk jug with a curved handle, attributed to the esteemed Kyoto School. Circa: late 19th century The body is enameled with polychrome figural medallions made in the shapes of a flower, a fan depicting blossoming flowers, surrounded by floral, foliate scroll, and circular motifs made in the Cloisonne technique. The base and the neck are adorned with polychrome floral, and circular patterns made in the same technique. Unmarked. The Kyoto School is the name given to the Japanese philosophical movement centered at Kyoto University that assimilated Western philosophy and religious ideas and used them to reformulate religious and moral insights unique to the East Asian cultural tradition. Dimensions: H 4 in. All measurements are approximate. Condition Overall good vintage condition. Signs of age and wear. Refer to photos.
