Black Egyptian Revival Deco Blouson Dress with Punched Brass Eyelets - S, 1924

About the Item

A dress that went around the world in 1924, this unusual frock features metal eyelets that gently chime when the wearer moves. An exotic masterpiece worthy of Callot Soeurs or Paquin. Vintage knee-length drop waist dress with square neckline and long sleeves with triple snaps and decorative bows at wrists. Bodice front features a two-layer drop blouson waistline with decorative flat bow fixed at right shoulder; top layer lays flat in front but forms sashes at each shoulder in rear. Skirt features double layer construction with decorative bow and waterfall tails fixed at left hip. Entire circumference of front and rear midsection decorated with stamped metal eyelets that pierce the top layer of chiffon and leave a hole to reveal the layer beneath. Attached black silk chemise underslip with nude chiffon straps. Pullover construction with no closures of any kind except wrist snaps. fabric: silk chiffon noteworthy: wet or dry cleaning not recommended. Air inside-out after wearing and vacuum gently through a nylon screen if necessary. Store flat. alterations: redyed entire garment to even out color; reattached metal eyelets where loose condition: good with half a dozen small holes in chiffon, the largest of which measures 4 mm (see photos), plus gentle inconsistencies in fabric where metal discs were reattached. measurements: neckline opening: 9” diameter shoulders: 15” sleeve length: 24 ½” from shoulder; 18” from underarm sleeve circumference: 12” at upper arm, 7” at wrist bust: 36” waist: 36” hips: 38” length: 43” from shoulder, 35” from underarm sweep: 44” hem: 3 ½” (dress), 3” (underslip) label: no label present size: no size tag present; comparable to modern size small
