Stephen Burrows Chartreuse Chiffon Abstract Shape Shift Dress

About the Item

Stephen Burrows is an American fashion designer based in New York City, known for being one of the first African-American fashion designers to sell internationally and develop a mainstream, high-fashion clientele. His garments, known for their bright colors and "lettuce hem" curly-edges, became an integral part of the disco-dancing scene of the 1970s. Burrows was one of the five American designers to show at the iconic Versailles battle in 1973 when the Americans went up against the French couturiers. Throughout his career has been awarded 3 Cody awards. Gorgeous lime green sleeveless dress by Stephen Burrows is a true example of wearable Art! It has a flattering ruched chiffon bust, taffeta straps and racer back. Abstract shape appliqués made of shiny multi-color taffeta and metallic silver leather are sewn on olive green jersey. The shapes, which wrap around to the back of the dress on the left side, peek through curtains of sheer chartreuse silk chiffon with delicate ruffled edges. This dress features Burrows’ signature lettuce hemline, an invisible zipper and decorative stitching on the back. Labeled a size “6.” Materials: Taffeta, matte jersey, silk chiffon, metallic leather.
