Pair of "Fontana piccola" lamps (1853) by Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte - Italy
By Fontana Arte, Max Ingrand
Located in Padova, IT
Designed in 1954 by the French glassmaker and decorator Max Ingrand, this precious white satin blown glass lamp was initially called "1853" and later "Fontana" in homage to the manufacturer. Max Ingrand was in fact the Artistic Director of this company for over ten years. In the world of design "1853" is still today the distinctive name of the object. Object with an iconic and timeless design, Fontana has earned the title of "bedside lamp par excellence". It is equipped with multiple switching: both the base and the lampshade contain one or more light sources. Multiple lighting allows you to meet multiple lighting needs: from the slight liminity of the rest light, to the intense light for reading up to an emotional and soft light obtained by indirect emission. Max Ingrand, whose full name was Maurice Max-Ingrand (Bressuire, December 20, 1908 - Paris, August 25, 1969), was a French glassmaker, decorator and designer. He is known for having created the stained glass windows of numerous churches in France and abroad and for having been the artistic director of the Italian lamp company...

Mid Century Modern
In his first year as artistic director at the Milanese design house Fontana Arte (founded by Giò Ponti and Luigi Fontana) in 1954, French glass artist Max Ingrand (1908–69), who had made a mark in his native country creating detailed stained-glass windows for cathedrals including Notre-Dame de Paris, devised a stunningly minimal table lamp. The Fontana light would go on to be one of both Ingrand and Fontana Arte’s most recognizable creations — and indeed one of the most influential lamps in d...

Mid Century Modern
Combat operations during World War II destroyed the stained-glass windows of churches around France. Max Ingrand (1908–69), a French designer who spent time as a POW, would become a leader in their restoration and, in turn, bring his expressive vision to some of the most inventive postwar glass objects, including the striking 1962 Glass Drop Pendant model 2259. Born in Bressuire, Ingrand spent some of his childhood in Chartres, where he was drawn to the medieval stained glass in the city’s fa...
