Ron Arad Albert and Victoria for Moroso Leather Chairs, a Pair
By Ron Arad
Located in Chicago, IL
A continuous flow of curving lines, an image-form drawn without ever lifting the pencil off the paper. Originally a ‘doughnut’ which provided inspiration for a sculpture: squashed, and reworked, using irony to go beyond the usual approach to industrial design. Then the piece itself: the padding and sewn-to-measure upholstery over an inner fibreglass frame reveal the interaction between the technical and expressive merits of the design. Its never-ending lines are sensitive but strong, perfect consonance between surface and form, body and skin. The leather reaches out into the space around it magnifying and reinforcing the materiality of the piece yet without interrupting or overpowering its fluidity.

1970's High Barrel Back Rattan Chair
Located in San Carlos, CA
Very cool and boho chic rattan woven wicker chair. This one of a kind rattan chair comes with a unique high barrel back and comfortable seat. The chair sits on a bamboo frame for strength.
This chair is in excellent structural condition. It is still as strong as ever and will easily last another 50 years if not more. Some reeds are snapped which is not uncommon and doesn't affect structural integrity. There's some discoloration due to age. See pictures for details.
Rattan, also spelled ratan (from Malay: rotan), is the name for roughly 600 species of Old World climbing palms belonging to subfamily Calamoideae. The greatest diversity of rattan palm species and genera are in the closed-canopy old-growth tropical forests of Southeast Asia, though they can also be found in other parts of tropical Asia and Africa. Most rattan palms are ecologically considered lianas due to their climbing habits, unlike other palm species. A few species also have tree-like or shrub-like habits.
Around 20% of rattan palm species are economically important and are traditionally used in Southeast Asia in producing wickerwork furniture, baskets, canes, woven mats, cordage, and other handicrafts. Rattan canes are one of the world's most valuable non-timber forest products. Some species of rattan also have edible scaly fruit and heart of palm. Despite increasing attempts in the last 30 years at commercial cultivation, almost all rattan products...
