Rare Paul Poiret Braided Yarn and Silk Tulle Toque
By Paul Poiret
Located in New York, NY
Rare and historical fashion artifact from the house of Paul Poiret and the personal wardrobe of Denise Boulet Poiret. Paul Poiret is known as one of the innovators of 20th Century Haute Couture in Paris. Poiret established his own house in 1903, and made his name with the controversial kimono coat.He designed flamboyant window displays and threw legendary parties to draw attention to his work; his instinct for marketing and branding was unmatched by any previous designer. Poiret's house expanded to encompass furniture, decor, and fragrance in addition to clothing. In 1911, he established the company Parfums de Rosine, named for his eldest daughter. Poiret's name was never linked to the company, but it was effectively the first fragrance ever launched by a designer. Denise Poiret was mother, model and muse to the fantastical larger than life figure who revolutionized Parisian fashion in the early parts of the 20th Century. This hat was part of Denise Poirets personal wardrobe and is an example of Poirets chic and restrained day wear. Denise Poiret became known for wearing these simple turban-like hats and head treatments throughout social Paris which brought increased notariety to her husband's work. Madeleine Panizon was initally employed as a designer for Martine (Poiret's decorative Art Branch) and ultimately became the milliner for the house of Poiret...

1924 Paul Poiret Haute-Couture Rare Ombre Beaded Flapper Cocoon Evening Coat
By Paul Poiret
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
Renowned fashion designer Paul Poiret (1879–1944) was a pioneer in modernizing the fashion industry. He collaborated on modern designs with artists such as Paul Iribe, George Lepape, and Raoul Dufy. In freeing women from corsets, Poiret effected a concomitant revolution in dressmaking, one that shifted the emphasis away from the skills of tailoring to those based on the skills of draping. This rare Art Deco style garment dating back to 1924 is a wonderful example of Paul Poiret's genius. Breathtaking cocoon-shaped evening coat of gorgeous black silk-georgette, hand beaded overall in lines of black beads which flow into gray translucent beads with geometric ragged edge formed at the gradient ombre . As shown, the coat has a dramatic large velvet collar and velvet cording along the top of the shoulders which extend down the full length of each sleeve. The unique dolman shape emphasizes the complex draped construction. The beadwork shimmers as the light hits every angle. Though this coat is unlabeled, details of this iconic design are published on page 195 in the book, "Poiret: Paul Poiret 1879-1944", by Yvonne Deslandres. Finding a Poiret is an uncommon occurrence and at auction they fetch extremely high prices. In 2005, a Paul Poiret garment went for over $170,000 and as time goes by, the prices will only increase. Timeless Vixen...
