Otto Steinert Furniture
Otto Steinert was born in Saarbrücken, Germany. He lived and worked in Saarbrücken and Essen. He was a photographer that experimented with form and technique to explore photography as a mode of personal expression. Steinert was a teacher, curator and collector, as well as a practicing photographer. In the 50s, he organized a series of touring group exhibitions entitled "Subjective Photography." He wanted to examine the more personal approach to photography that, he believed, had become more prominent since the Second World War. Coming from a background in medicine, Steinert lacked formal training in photography, and his approach was unbound by convention. The display of works from the late 40s to the mid–50s demonstrates the range of experimental techniques that he used to explore the potential of the medium beyond straightforward representation.
